Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105, NLT).
Don’t worry about tomorrow. For tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today (Matthew 6:34, NLT).
What do we do when we don’t know what to do? Times are both difficult and uncertain. Stressors are mounting, poor choices seem to prevail, and it’s challenging to get a straight (and honest) answer from those we often look to.
In our own lives, we struggle to figure out the best decisions to make- if, when, and how to move forward. We want more and to do more, but are often uncertain about the details of stepping out and taking action. We’d like to see what’s around the bend before we make a move. We want to predict a favorable outcome, but life just doesn’t work like that. God doesn’t work like that. The path is winding, and pitfall and roadblocks are inevitable-but God!
God will provide the vision and insight we need to make the decisions we need to make-right now. He will brighten the dim and dark path and show us where to go. He knows that if we see too much, we worry too much, over-plan, get in the way, and lose focus. It’s easy to be bogged down with details when we see what’s on the horizon. In his sovereignty, he allows us the vision of a few steps at a time, even when we’re aware that we’re working toward a specific goal. Now is not the time to be preoccupied with what will happen months from now. This is not to say that we shouldn’t have long- and short-term goals, but what we must do before we develop any plan is to trust God for today.
When will it be safe to mill around in our cities? Only God knows. In the meantime, we ask for wisdom to direct our actions. When will schools re-open? Does it really matter? Whether virtual or in-person, God will provide every instruction that benefits children, families and educators. When will this civil unrest end? The timing of these events has allowed many eyes to be opened and many perspectives to be informed. As the people seek God for direction, he will expose the hope, direction, and healing that directly responds to the hurt, confusion, and anger.
God is timely. He will respond. We must listen, watch and act. Act by praying, by reading scripture, by writing city-, county- and state- officials, by voting, by having progressive conversations with accountability partners and friends, by using our skills and talents to effect the greater good, and by encouraging others to use wisdom to respond in ways that have lasting Godly impact.
When we have decisions to make, let’s use the wisdom of God to respond to whatever boggles the mind and burdens the soul. He will illuminate our path and tell us what to do. He will be our One Light for our next step.
Prayer
Lord, Thank you for providing on-time direction. We’re unable to respond to the questions, challenges and chaos without your guidance. We look for you to light our paths and show us how to walk and live in a way that honors you. Your way is our way to live well.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
Be well,
Michele
