On the Hook

Psalm 128:1-2

“…it shall be well with thee.”

DEVOTIONAL

Life is far from perfect and God knows it.  Few things go the way we want them to go.

It’s easy to think that everything would be perfect if it lined up with our opinions and plans.  But the hook is not on the circumstances or the people.  The responsibility is ours and we get to choose how we go through our “stuff”.

As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone.  If you want to go far, go together”.  We get nowhere pretty fast when we decide to follow our own path.

God has not only promised to be with us at all times, He promises that if we put Him first and focus on His agenda, we’ll have everything we need.  He’s promised that all will be well with us.

Be clear, He didn’t promise perfection in our circumstances.  Instead, He promises that “it will be well”.  What’s the difference, you ask?  When life is well circumstances don’t matter.  We’ll have the kind of peace and Godly assurance that helps us see things His way and reminds us that He’s aware and in charge.

God’s version of being well doesn’t make sense to anyone else but the people who possess it.  It’s baffling.  At a time when we should be out of our minds with worry, we can laugh; when we should keep all we have, we decide to give to someone else; when we’re in mourning, we encourage someone who needs it; when our stresses mount, we remember to give Him thanks for everything we’re facing; and, when our future seems uncertain, we trust that He’s got it under control.

God and faith seldom make sense.  But when we’re on the hook we have everything we need to live well.

PRAYER

You tell us to give thanks in all things (Thessalonians), so today we are grateful that we don’t walk this road of life without your guidance, care, and peace.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
