Help Me, Lord!

Devotional

Psalm 121:1-2 (NKJV)
I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 46:1 (NLT)
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.

We need God to show up in our situations right now.  If you’re anything like me, I’ve repeated, “Help me, Lord” more times than I can count in recent days and weeks.

The situations mount without warning.  Before I know it I’m overwhelmed.  That’s when I’m struck by reality.  I can’t do this life the way I should without clear help and direction from God.  I need Him to tell me what to do and how to do it.  How do I get all of this done?  Meet the mounting deadlines? Assist my family members? Respond to work demands? Take care of myself?  My head is so full of details that it’s getting a bit scary.  Something’s gotta give.  And that’s when I hear it- “I’m with you.  I’m right here.  I hear you.  You’re not alone”.

“Help me, Lord” is the prayer that conscious Christians pray.  His voice helps us settle down and get the grip we need to take the next step.  It’s not an utterance to take lightly.  “Help me, Lord” is a power-packed request.  It communicates urgency.  We often say it when we feel desperate, but God doesn’t hold that against us.  He wants us to see Him as our Sovereign Source.

When we call on God He actually shows up.  Or maybe it’s more accurate to say that He makes Himself known to us when we call since He’s always present.  He takes our requests seriously.  In fact, when we say, “Help me, Lord” God activates the resources of Heaven to respond to our appeal.

When we decide to do life on our own, we do it at our own risk.  God wants us to look up and toward Him.  We can find Him where ever we look, but when we look up our hearts are lightened by the experience  of His hope.  When we’re weary from the load of our responsibilities, we can look up and be revived.  God is there.  He’s listening and He has everything we need.

We’re often annoyed when someone asks us to do something for them with short notice, but God is ready and waiting to provide what’s needed with a moment’s notice.  He’s our Right Now God and we are His top priority.

Help Me, Lord

Let’s make God our top priority by:

        • Staying close to Him through prayer
        • Thanking Him often for everything we notice Him doing (and whatever we don’t notice)
        • Letting others know that He can be trusted to take care of everything they need

Our help comes from the One who has done the impossible.  He’s the Creator of heaven and earth and of life itself.  There’s no one else more trustworthy than the One who made us.  Let’s demonstrate that trust by crying out, “Help me, Lord” as we believe that He will show up and bring help.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for the privilege to ask You for help.  You tell us that You are “always ready to help”. Since we’re always in some kind of trouble Your presence provides us with the comfort and assurance we need. When You respond to us we know that everything will be alright.  So, we’re bringing our challenges to You today and asking for your direction and intervention.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
