Have you every experienced ridiculous peace? Ridiculous peace is a kind of inexplicable calmness that comes over you despite your dramatic circumstances.  

Drama is easily found on any given day and peace can seem elusive.  We have to fight to find and keep peace.  Burying our heads in the sand and ignoring what’s happening around us is seldom a good strategy.  We can’t just pretend that people and issues are not there.  In fact, ignoring what’s there only makes matters worse.  

God has an alternative to the mayhem.  He offers peace- not some ordinary, temporary rest. Rather,  He offers peace that is constant and perfect.  In other words, it’s unmatched, excellent, foolproof, faultless and pure.  Now, that’s just ridiculous!  It’s unbelievable! Inconceivable! We can have the mind-boggling presence of a God who provides absolutely everything we need in the midst of our troubles.  

God gives us a massive portion of peace when it doesn’t make sense to be peaceful.  He will provide an internal “hush” when everything around us is swirling.  So, we don’t have to be in conflict, lose sleep, overeat, or bite our nails when we’re dealing with our issues.  We can experience the harmony of communion with the Spirit when we would typically grapple with anxiety, fear and uncertainty. 

God has our ‘shalom’- the tranquility and wholeness that can’t be purchased and has no match.  It’s not a part of a packaged salvation deal.  We have to do something that frequently trips us up.  We have to trust Him, look to Him, and given Him complete control.  It’s a non-negotiable reality.  We have to actively pursue our peace, go after it, and continue the pursuit with vigor.  That’s right- we can choose to trust God!  As we trust Him, we develop spiritual stamina that doesn’t shift as life happens and, in turn, we receive peace as a continual dividend.

So, how do we get this ridiculous peace?

• Keep a prayerful attitude 
• Remember that He’s in charge of everything 
• Be open and available to His movement
• Choose to trust Him
• Listen for His voice

Experiencing ridiculous peace is a sign of growth.  We know we have it when we can sense ourselves being cradled by our Father, see our circumstances for what they really are, and decide to wait for His movement.  

We can make a decision today to rely on God and reap the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits. The benefits are the ability to think more clearly and critically, to feel a release in our bodies as the weight lifts, and hear, sense, and/ or feel God’s voice of direction.   

God brings peace that makes no human sense at all. It’s absolutely, wonderfully ridiculous!
