SING!

Psalm 57:7 (NLT)

My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident.  No wonder I can sing your praises!

It’s so easy to trust God and sing His praises when life is going well.  However, when circumstances change, we sometimes forget that true deliverance can be found in prayer and praise.

Trouble should expose our resolve, fix our stance, and demonstrate our faith.  Depending on God during difficult times builds our mental and spiritual stamina.  That’s where our testimony is born.  The more we trust Him, the greater our capacity to trust Him again.

David knew this so well.  He was hated by King Saul and had to run for his life.  In the midst of despair, David took the time to be quiet and praise God, and his confidence was restored.

As people of faith, we’re prone to forgetfulness and inconsistency.  We often sing great songs of praise in the morning and sink into despair at night.  But, when the clouds clear, and our memory is restored, we’re encouraged by the memory of God’s faithfulness.  He has extended mercy when we least deserved it and given grace that has preserved us through every storm.

There are so many things we’re unable to control in life- sickness comes, loved ones die, and disappointment happens.  When life shifts, our praise should be heard.  We can look to God in the midst of difficulty, praise Him out of our personal confidence, and receive the renewed vigor and resolve that only He can provide.

Singing does so much to heal the soul.  So, when family members push our buttons, it’s a good time to hum a tune.  When work is stressful and the tasks won’t end, there’s always a hymn to help us cope.  And, when we’re uncertain about how to resolve an issue pray, read scripture, and belt out a favorite song of praise.  Before we know it, we’ll experience the emotional boost from singing the right song that struck the right cord.

When life happens, be still and sing!

Psalm 89:1

I will sing of the Lord’s unfailing love forever! Young and old will hear of your faithfulness.

PRAYER

Lord,

We’re grateful that no matter what happens in and around us, you are always there.  You’ve put a song in our hearts that’s devoted to praising you.  Thank you for designing us to respond to the beauty of music, and thank you for being a kind, gracious God.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
