True Love

Genesis 1: 27 (CSB)

So God created man in his own image; he created him in the image of God…

God loves us with everything He has so that we can learn to love ourselves and the people around us.   In fact, He gave everything so that we could have everything (John 3:16).  That’s what real, true love looks like.

God formed us to His satisfaction and to possess all that He is.   He said that what He created was “very good” (Genesis 1:31, CSB).  In fact, some bible versions say that His creation was, “excellent in every way” (NLT).

Who are we to think less of God’s great work?  Our job is to mirror Him, yet we struggle to believe that His view of our frame is accurate.  We too often believe others’ opinions and criticisms and internalize their rejections.  Better yet, we compare ourselves to what others appear to be.

We can trust God’s opinion of us.  He loves us because He planned our result.  We can love our eyes, nose, stomach and hips.  We can recognize the value of the sound of our own voice and unmade face.  Our complexion is useful, our curves have purpose, that scar is just right, and the shapes of our heads have meaning.  We may assess that we have a little too much of ‘this’ and not enough of ‘that’ but God knows us in our present state and loves us anyway.  We have what He will use to meet someone else’s in need.

We are loved with unadulterated passion, compassion, and care.  We’re not duplicates from a human mold.  We were made in His likeness, to live in His will, in these bodies, for as long as He desires.

God is the very embodiment and example of love and wants us to learn to love and like and approve of who we are, how we look and what we’re equipped to do.  When we finally decide to see ourselves His way we’ll be able to love others the way we should.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for loving us enough to confront us about the way we think about and talk about ourselves.  Help us to look at ourselves and smile, to think about our potential and give thanks, and to see the purpose in our existence.  We agree with you that everything You created is “excellent in every way.”

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele

Thank you for this wonderful reminder today! In this world of comparison that is constantly perpetuated on social media, television, and magazines, help us to remember that each of us is made in God’s likeness. I’m fearfully and wonderfully made, every curve, bump, and scar. As you so beautifully reminded us….everything our Father created is “excellent in every way.” Amen Chele!

  2. Thank you for reminding us to love ourselves as a wonderful unique creation by the Master Craftsman. Let us also note that at a deeper level and in its truest sense, the image of God is a likeness to God’s attributes: His love, holiness, godliness, righteousness, etc., so that being made in His image reflects primarily on being mentally, morally, and socially like Him.🙏🏾 For more: https://www.gotquestions.org/image-of-God.html

Oh how true those reminders are.
Praise be to Almighty God for using you as a vessel to deliver these timely reminders that we are wonderfully made in God’s flawless image. Our seeming flaws are God’s POSITIVE PURPOSE for enriching our lives.

  4. Yes Lord thank you for your servant Dr. Walker and how she encourages your sheep to follow you. Thanks for the reminder that your love is the greatest of all and you made and design each of us uniquely. I love the reminder that my seemingly flaws are God’s POSITIVE PURPOSE to enrich me. May I love all of me just the way God designed.
