WAIT A MINUTE

Psalm 27:14 (NLT)

Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous.  Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.

DEVOTIONAL

Waiting can be difficult work.  When nothing seems right and our world has been turned upside down, the only thing we really want is the end to whatever we’re dealing with and recovery of our peace of mind.  But God thinks differently than we do.

God has that Sovereign way of acquainting us with who we are, what we feel, and the true nature of our motivations.  While we’re beckoning Heaven’s Gate, asking for what we want, He’s speaking to our hearts and telling us what He wants.  While we’re begging Him to bring an end to our situation, He’s demonstrating His love and compassion in ways we hadn’t anticipated.  He’s renewing our minds, building our resolve, and demonstrating His care for everything that concerns us.

Seldom do we see the need to prolong an uncomfortable issue, experience the pain of ‘going through’, pray day-after-day for the same thing, or stretch the boundaries of our hopes and dreams.  But God plans perfectly and His plan keeps us safe.  He knows the details of our situations, shields us from what we neither need to see nor know, and teaches us lessons we could only learn in the space between our petitions and His response.

When we are brave enough to surrender- to give Him all of our concerns and yield to the perfection of His plan- we position ourselves to be close to Him.  Before long, we realize that impatience is no friend as it exposes our faithlessness, selfishness, and regret.  In its place we are renewed, strengthened and equipped to press forward and live well.

God wants us to embrace the pause by listening, praying, trusting and working as we anticipate His response to our call.  He has not forgotten or overlooked our need.  He simply asks us to wait patiently and trust Him greatly.

PRAYER

Prayer

Thank you, Lord for the gift of waiting.  Teach us how to wait patiently, to trust You with our deepest concerns, and to use the pause you’ve given us to draw closer to you.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
