'Be Free' Series

This month we’ll consider ways to change the way we think so that we can learn to live well.  We’ll focus on what it means to ‘Be Free’ to be ‘That Woman’ we desire to be.

Theme Verse: “So if the Son sets you free, you really will be free.” (John 8:36 CSB)

That Woman!

James 1:2-3 (NLT)

Dear brothers and sisters, whenever trouble comes your way, let it be an opportunity for joy.  For when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.  So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be strong in character and ready for anything.

DEVOTIONAL

We’re known by the way we handle our issues.  Some are cool under pressure, a few cry at the hint of trouble, while others are hot-headed and loud.  And so, people begin to think of us as ‘that woman’ for reasons good or bad.  Let’s choose which woman we will be.

That praying woman.  There’s nothing like the example of a woman who activates her prayers when she’s in need.  Her responses to her trials reflect the long-term relationship she’s cultivated with her God.

That faithful woman.  A woman who’s growing in her faith learns to talk to her troubles like they’re temporary.  Past experience teaches us that God uses issues to draw something out of and in us.  Our perspectives can change when we consider what He must be up to.  Our habits, then become a road map to our character.  With time, we understand that trials can’t break us because we’re in God’s hands.

That gracious woman.  Most of the time, trials annoy us.  We’d prefer they’d just go away.  But God’s clear design is that we learn to live well in the midst of difficulty- that we become that woman who is an example of His grace, who draws others to look to Him when they don’t know where to look, and who grows and matures day-by-day.

That grateful woman.  Whether in health, finances, family, work, loss, or friendships, God’s purposes can be trusted.  So, as we ‘go through’ we can expand our prayer life, be open to God’s actions, make healthier decisions, develop compassion for others, view our condition from His position, develop increased gratitude, choose not to complain, and see God as being bigger than the box we place Him in.

As the saying goes, “Be the change you want to see”.  Well, we can be free to become the woman we admire- that woman who looks up and in deeply every day.

Think About It

  • How do you react when life throws you a curve/ gets hard?
  • What changes do you notice in your prayer life when your heart hurts?
  • How do you treat other people when things aren’t going your way?

Prayer

Lord, I want to be ‘that woman’ who honors You, depends on You and represents You well.  You’ve provided the perfect example that I can look to and follow.  So today, help me live as though I know You.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele

  1. This really spoke to me today. It is so special to hear the right word at the right time. Thank you for this my friend.

  2. “A woman who’s growing in her faith learns to talk to her troubles like they’re temporary.” When I read that I thought, ‘Why are you in my head Michele?’ Lol. You have echoed my recent experiences where I can see my shift from worry to worth. God is definitely using my circumstances and those of others around me to build my character to be stronger than before. Then, He shows me the confirming through my people circle. Thanks for answering your calling Michele!
