God Our Kin

Ephesians 1:11 (NLT)

Furthermore, because of Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us from the beginning…

DEVOTIONAL

We have ties that bind.  Christ is God Our Kin.  We belong to God and He belongs to each of us.  We have His DNA and are identified with Him as having all that is needed to render honor and live well.

More than a mere connection, we possess God and He possesses us.  “In Him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).  He is our occupancy.  The very cells in our bodies are identified by His creative mark.

We are His creation and He is Our Father and the Source of our strength.  Because He is who He is, we are loved with a Divine wholesomeness that is irrevocable and impossible to replicate.

God loves us, and so we are not abandoned orphans who miss the love and guidance of a Father.  He identifies us and calls us His very own (Psalm 100:3).  We are His choice possession with the opportunity to become more like Him as we advance in grace.

So, when we doubt our ability to press through trials and follow His will, we have the assurance of a marked connection that alerts us to His presence and His will.  He will reassure and encourage, guide, and secure.

As He is, so are we.  We are able because He is able.  We can do because He is our Provider.  We can love because He loved us first (1 John 4:19), gives us the capacity, and serves as our Example.

We can choose to live like we have a Father by turning our backs on recklessness, deceit and unforgiveness.  If we are kin to Him, we must act like Him, and share that relationship with others.

We can live well today because our genealogy is strong.  He is, so we are.

Think About It

As you consider today’s message, reflect on and respond to the following questions (feel free to share your answers, if you’d like):

    • Who are you becoming?
    • What have you done lately to be more like Christ?
    • What doubts and fears do you need let go of and let God speak to?

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for creating, identifying owning us.  You are the God who never leaves us or forsakes us.  We are able because You are our God and have given us everything we need to live as You desire.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live Well,
Michele
