Cover Girl

1 Peter 4:8 (CSB)

Above all, maintain constant love for one another, since love covers a multitude of sins.

DEVOTIONAL

Who’s a cover girl? She’s the woman who learns to love difficult people, to love people in the midst of difficult situations, and to love those who don’t love her in return.  She functions in a way that looks impossible, unrealistic and unfair.  She’s no doormat.  She’s not confused and she’s not out of her mind.  She’s committed to seeing people the way God sees them.

Real, true love requires forgiveness.  It’s the hallmark of humility.  When we can look beyond the way we feel and, instead focus on what’s in the other person’s best interest, we’ll find that our feelings are not as important as their future.

When we begin from a position of love, our capacity changes.  We’re better equipped to patiently listen to family members, give with abundance to people we barely know, and encourage friends through their rough patches.

A cover girl keeps going to God in prayer, asking Him to help her see things His way.  She wants to reach the heart of the grumpy woman, share with the stingy man, and encourage the struggling teen.  How does she do that?:

  • She prays for those who ask for it and anyone who comes to mind
  • She finds a way to do ‘a little something’ for a person who needs a touch
  • She keeps a confidence or gently confronts when it’s needed
  • She gives without judgment and expects nothing in return
  • She’s happy to be a blessing

A cover girl is available to love on other people.  She has the assurance that as she takes care of God’s business, He will perfectly take care of hers (Matthew 7:12).

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for the reminder that we can cover one another without fear of losing anything.  When we add kindness and care to another person’s life, our lives become richer for the effort.  Give us the capacity to love as You do.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Love well,
Michele

    Good morning Chele,

Thank you for this reminder today. We are called to love one another. I love these words..” When we begin from a position of love, our capacity changes.” Indeed, love is a game-changer.

  3. Amen, Amen, and Amen! Let us pray that God will guide our love and attention so that we can be Cover Girls particularly toward struggling family, friends, and neighbors more now (during this pandemic) than ever. So many of our “Sistuhs” seem/look okay on the outside, but we are hurting inside behind a veil of silence.

  4. Today’s devotional is confirmation from God to ME! Wow! I have been struggling with being loving towards a particular “sistuh” and helping her out with something in a very big way. But I kept praying about it: “Lord, lead me and guide me….Help me be more like You in this situation.” And God’s been doing it. Today’s devotional really sealed it. “She’s no doormat. She’s not confused and she’s not out of her mind. She’s committed to seeing people the way God sees them.” AMEN!!!

  5. I love this definition of a Cover Girl. It’s nice to know we can all be Cover Girls, without the magazine, if we go to God in prayer, ask Him for help, follow His instructions, reach hurting/needy people, share with others, and be an encourager. Thank you!
