GIVE IT UP

James 4:7 (NLT)

So humble yourselves before God.  Resist the Devil, and he will flee from you.

DEVOTIONAL

God created us as intelligent people who have the ability and opportunity to make decisions.  He, then waits for us to ask Him for guidance and follow His leadings.  The problem is that  we’re too independent for our own good, so our path to God is often marred by pride.

Too much of our emotional energy is spent either thinking too much or too little of ourselves and giving the power to our problems.  Our finely packaged exteriors mask our inner turmoil.  We are at war with ourselves and our prayers go unanswered because of the stubbornness of our hearts.  We need God, but we also want what we want the way we want it.

God keeps it simple- submit- surrender- give it up- give it to Him- let Him work.  We often think of what we will lose, but He teaches us that when we release our will and concerns to Him, we win.  We gain the ability to let go of our vice grip on fear, regret, desperation, and loneliness.

When we give it all up, we’ll not be confined to the bondage of our own thoughts and actions and will become open to the sovereignty of His actions.  In return, He gives “mercy and grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16).

When we decide to relinquish control of our circumstances to the One who can be trusted, we experience the emotional release that comes when you know you’re in good hands.  In God’s great plan, submission is the gift that brings us the freedom our hearts crave. So, give it up!

PRAYER

Lord,  Teach us how to submit to you in every area of our lives.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele

  1. Good morning Chele,
Thank you for these words today. Yes, my prayer daily is to give it up and move out of my own way, surrender and trust our God in all facets of my life. Amen!

  2. Thank you Michele. A much needed word. Our hearts are FULL of pride, and so much folly. Oh that we would be quicker to surrender and live in peace as a result. Blessings!
