MY DEAR FRIEND

Proverbs 27:9 (NLT)

The heartfelt counsel of a friend is as sweet as perfume and incense.

Proverbs 27:17 (NLT)

As iron sharpens iron, a friend sharpens a friend.

DEVOTIONAL

Good girlfriends are a true blessing and having more than one is a treasure trove.  We need to love everyone, but our close circle should be filled with people who make us a better version of ourselves.  These are the women with whom we have honest, affirming relationships.  When we’re with them we are encouraged and/ or convicted, our perspectives are broadened, and we’re grateful for having been in their presence.

There’s no substitute for a good girlfriend with good sense.  She’ll tell us what will keep us safe because she knows the signs of trouble.  She will use the benefits of her sorrows to help us make wholesome decisions.  She’s flawed, but will direct us to pray, think before we act, sense what’s in our gut,  and pursue peace.   Our good girlfriend will help us to look inward and upward, and will encourage us to be kind to ourselves.

Every woman needs someone who will lovingly traverse brave conversations, listen as we talk out loud, provide objectivity when we need it, let us be who we are, and then tell us to “stop the nonsense” when we’ve gone too far.  Life is too short to be fickle and haphazard about friendships.  We can be acquainted with many, but our lives should be more deeply impacted by women who bring the values of honesty, joy and comfort into our space when they show up.  God often uses our true-blue friends to build our character and grow us up to be wise women who make wise choices, have true impact, and live well.

PRAYER

Lord, Thank you for the gift of good girlfriends.  Help us to value the friends you’ve given us and to be the friend we want to have.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
