NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH

Philippians 4:8 (NLT)

…Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right.  Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable.  Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

DEVOTIONAL

We have to choose to speak to the lies that creep up in our minds when difficulties come, when we’re uncertain, and when we’re afraid.  We have the ability to flip the switch on what we mentally rehearse and believe.  Speaking to our lies with the truth of God’s Word is crucial, so let’s get on with it!

What’s undeniable? “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (Isaiah 26:3 NLT),  When we make a decision to put our thoughts in proper order the benefits become obvious.  Rather than focusing on the people and the problem, we can be transfixed on the Problem-Solver.  He has our remedy and will give us the peace to go through the storm.  And He won’t just give us a temporary peace, but rather gives a peace that remains locked in place as we learn to trust Him more and more.

What is the trustworthy? “For the Lord watches over the path of the godly, but the path of the wicked leads to destruction” (Psalm 1:6 NLT).  He has his eye on us at all times.  He’s never distracted or otherwise occupied.  God is deliberate, aware and focused on His children.  He is on watch, on His job, and never slacking.  His track record proves that we can depend on Him today and tomorrow.

What’s unquestionable? “In those days when you pray, I will listen” (Jeremiah 29:12 NLT).  He hears every prayer we utter, whether by our lips or in the secret places of our hearts.  He’s connected to us, always listening to us, and responds to us.  He hears us even when we don’t hear Him and will reply when He knows the time is right (Matthew 7:8).  We can rely on the promise that when we speak our words have power and reach the very heart of God.

What’s reassuring? “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you.  I will help you.  I will uphold you with my victorious right hand” (Isaiah 41:10 NLT).  We are not alone and we don’t need to be confused by our circumstances.  Not only do we have help, we have the Creator.  He is with us every step of the way, guiding, protecting, and providing.  We don’t need to fear the known or the unknown because we have the very Host of God with us as we go through minor difficulties and major trials.  He’s there, present, steady and strong, through it all.

What’s the guarantee? “And my God will liberally supply (fill until full) your every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 AMP).  There is nothing we need that God does not possess in great measure.  He responds to our requests, anticipates our needs and has remedies to suite our situations.  His actions remind us of His love, compassion, and graciousness.  When we seek Him first (Matthew 6:33), we get His attention and are guaranteed an overwhelming response.

And this is just the beginning.  There are so many other truths to explore and learn and know.  We’ve been provided with everything we need to live an equipped and informed life.  Let’s choose to believe nothing but the true, pure, lovely, honorable, and excellent promises of God.

PRAYER

Lord, Thank you for the promises you’ve provided.  Help us to live well by focusing on what we know is true rather than on what we think is right.  We want to understand Your Word and and speak the truth to our situations.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

 Live well,
Michele
