God Our Hope

Psalm 126:4-6 (NLT)

Restore our fortunes, Lord, as streams renew the desert.  Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy.  They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.

DEVOTIONAL

Spring is a good time to think about God’s restorative power. It’s a time when what was old becomes new again. It’s a time that remind us that there is always hope to hold on to.  He is, In fact, God Our Hope- Jehovah Jireh- The God who provides (Genesis 22:14).

God can bring us back to a good place.  He can encourage, heal and help in ways that will boggle our minds. He can use the pain that has left us feeling broken, empty and victimized and turn every thing around. He is the Light at the beginning, middle and end of our tunnels.  He’s with us in and through it all, and will use everything we go through.  (Gene

The deep sorrow of the loss of a spouse, parent, or child can show us that God is our Comforter.  The discouragement of unemployment can reveal that He is our Provider.  The uncertainty of health challenges can display God’s love and compassion as our Healer.  The hopelessness of abuse can expose God’s tangible healing and restorative power as our Protector.  The isolation of divorce and fatherlessness can display God’s ability to mend the broken, aching heart and be our Peace.

We need pain in order to know God truly, love others deeply, explore new opportunities fearlessly, change our habits sincerely, speak the truth openly, forgive others consistently, and engage our gifts daily.  Regardless of the details of our circumstances, God can use our pain to demonstrate His love for us, strengthen us and reach others.  We gain new perspectives and actually grow as a result of pain if we look to Him and yield to His will as we go through the process.

Though pain is inevitable, it doesn’t have to ‘do us in’.  Life can offer bitter experiences, but God restores our joy.  He is everything we need.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for reminding us that our pain has purpose.  If we’re honest, we’d prefer not to go through the hard stuff of life.  But if You have a purpose for what we go through, we can trust that You will show us more of who You are and You will restore us.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
