Good God!

Psalm 46:11 (NLT)

The Lord Almighty is among us; the God of Israel is our fortress.

DEVOTIONAL

God Our Father is a good God who is with us, for us, and has a track record:

Trustworthy God.  He has proven His commitment to us.  He has demonstrated His love and care, holding back the hand of evil and showing up when we call.  He gives the assurance we need and waits for our response.

Gracious God.  God has been with us all along, tending to all of our affairs.  We are living testimonies of His presence and benefactors of His favor.  We have received more than we deserve and exist under the canopy of His kindness every day.

Present God.  We were born into circumstances we did not craft, grew in homes we did not buy, and lived with people we did not choose.  Loved ones have ignored our needs and friends have walked away, but the Lord of hosts has been with us (Psalm 46:7) and has never abandoned us.

Preserving God.  When our minds have contemplated the unthinkable and our hearts have felt as though they could literally break, we’ve been comforted, encouraged, and strengthened to continue the course for one more day.  Difficult decisions have been made and opportunities have been taken away, but He has kept us in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3).  He has been committed to securing our well-being as we’ve committed to following His course.

Protective God.  Every dawn and every dusk has exposed the safety and security of His hand.  God has been our refuge- our hiding place.  We’ve matured and faced the realities of life, received insulation from the consequences of poor decision-making, and have been given what we’ve needed to face our difficulties.  He has protected without our knowledge and has provided comfort when fears shatter our peace.

Good God.  Who else has lavished us with the gifts of life and forgiveness?  He has blessed us beyond our imaginations, freely giving of His loving-kindness and tender mercies to those too naïve to truly comprehend.  Our God has given us the advantage- to know Him, to serve Him, and to love Him.

Deserving God.  So, now the choice for us is clear- give Him a little or give Him our all?  Show up to live well or be present on our own terms?  A God who has been as He is deserves the best of who we are. He is great and deserves great attention, devotion and praise.

PRAYER

Lord, Thank you for being our good and gracious God.  Teach us how to demonstrate your kindness to others as our act of gratitude to You.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele
