The Best Position

2 Kings 19:30 (CSB)

The surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root downward and bear fruit upward.

DEVOTIONAL

God allowed the Assyrians to conquer and ravage many nations.  Now, the Assyrian king had his eye on Jerusalem and declared that nothing could save the people from being captured.  The king sent word to King Hezekiah that served to intimidate and sow seeds of doubt about God’s nature and capacity.  His words brought fear and that unrest resulted in a posture of prayer.

Intimidation can make us buckle and tremble in fear but humility puts us in the best position to remember who we are and what we need.  When trouble comes our best response is to maintain a lucid opinion of ourselves.  We need God.  We are nothing without Him and can do nothing without Him.  We are only as important and capable as He says and allows- period!

Humility was the key to King Hezekiah’s outcome.  He was more apt to be obedient because of his prayerful posture.  His actions moved God to respond and put the people in a position to hear what God had to say and see what God would do.

We can follow King Hezekiah’s example by:

*Remembering our limits versus God’s ability

*Releasing the struggle to be in control of everything

*Appreciating God’s actions in our lives

*Influencing others to pray

*Trusting God for the results of our prayers

When we’re willing to rely on God for every fear, concern, person, position or situation, He will act on our behalf.  Our faith grows deep roots as our hearts open and submit to Him, and the result is a fertile space for good, beneficial things to happen.

When our confidence is in God we learn to live in humble expectation of His actions.  Our hearts become more pliable and open to His desires as our convictions become more certain.  The result is an opportunity to grow and flourish and provide the kind of refreshment and life that others can enjoy, use and imitate.

Prayer

Lord, Thank you for teaching us that humility is the right position to take.  We depend on you for everything and trust You to do what only You can do.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Live well,
Michele

  1. Thank you Lord for your guidance, protection and love. May I always practice humility and rely on you even when I don’t know the outcome. You know what is best for me. Help me Lord to put you first, staying consistent in studying your word and praying to grow and connect to you. Remove self and add spiritual powers to my life that I may lead others to your saving grace. I surrender ALL to you.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

  3. Amen Michele, We are nothing without Him, and can do nothing without Him!
WE NEED GOD! I am learning even the more to relay on God for everything, no matter how big or small, He knows what is best for each of us.
